Description

A delightful Southern dessert that features a velvety banana filling topped with a shatteringly crisp top, offering a combination of creamy and crunchy textures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice bananas into thick coins.
  3. Melt butter in a 9×9 or similar baking dish until bubbling.
  4. Scatter banana slices evenly over the melted butter.
  5. Whisk brown sugar, milk, flour, baking powder, salt, and vanilla until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter over bananas in an even layer.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until the top is golden-brown and edges are caramelized.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra caramel pockets, sprinkle a tablespoon of brown sugar around the edges before baking. For extra crisp edges, finish under the broiler for 30–60 seconds.
