- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons ground ginger
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Mix well and set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Stir in molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Roll the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut out pieces using templates.
- Place the cut pieces on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until firm. Allow to cool completely.
- Assemble the house using royal icing to attach the pieces, holding them in place for a minute to set.
- Decorate your gingerbread house with candies, icing, and other treats.

Chill the dough for easier handling. Use royal icing for stronger bonds when assembling.
